One thing that does not exist in the province of Lecco? The plain. In fact, the entire territory is predominantly mountainous (70 percent) and the remaining part is hilly (30 percent). In particular, the southern part of the province, which belongs to the Brianza macro-area shared with the provinces of Como and Monza, is hilly. The rest of the territory of the province of Lecco, as we said, is mountainous. But what, in detail, are the mountains in Lecco and province?
Discovering the mountains of Lecco
The Resegone is the mountain of Lecco par excellence and together with Mount Due Mani, Magnodeno and Coltignone it forms an arched embrace around the city.
However, to find Lecco’s highest and most imposing mountains, one has to go north of the provincial capital, between the Lecco shore of Lake Como and the Valsassina. These are the peaks of Lecco’s Orobic Pre-Alps: these are the Grigne group, the Campelli group, Pizzo Tre Signori, and Legnone, which is the highest mountain in the province of Lecco.
Between Mt. Resegone and Mt. Legnone, on the east side of the Valsassina, the Dorsale Orobica Lecchese runs: a long and fascinating trek in stages.
Staying to the east, but moving south of the city of Lecco, on the border with the province of Bergamo we find the mountains of the San Martino Valley, such as Mount Ocone, Mount Tesoro and Mount Linzone.
Some southern peaks of the Larian triangle, the area in the middle of the two branches of the lake and between Como, Lecco and Bellagio: Cornizzolo, Corni di Canzo and Moregallo. Outside the province, but still within easy reach, Mount San Primo and Mount Bolettone are other ideal destinations for hikes in the center of Lake Como.
In the south of the province, in Brianza, among the hills there are also some mountains that, although they are of modest height, are very interesting from a naturalistic point of view: Mount Barro and Mount Brianza, as well as the hill of Montevecchia immersed in the Curone Park.

About the Province of Lecco
To tell the truth, the Province of Lecco is not very large. In fact, its area is 805.61 km² in which 337 thousand people live, 48 thousand of whom are located in the capital city. The territory can be divided into 8 zones: Lecco City, the Lecco hinterland, the oggionese (the area around Oggiono), the casatese (the area around Casatenovo), the meratese (the area around Merate), the calolziese (the area around Calolziocorte), the Lake and the Valsassina.
To the east it borders the Province of Bergamo along the axis of the Dorsale Orobica Lecchese, the San Martino Valley and the Adda River. To the north the border is with Valtellina and Valchiavenna, in the Province of Sondrio. To the south is the Province of Monza and Brianza, while to the west the border with the Province of Como runs along the Lambro River.
The Province of Lecco is home to six parks. Two are riverine – the Northern Adda Regional Park and the Lambro Valley Regional Park – the others all have to do with mountains in some way. They are the Parco della Grigna Settentrionale, the Parco naturale del Monte Barro and the Parco regionale di Montevecchia e della Valle del Curone.
